To Gibraltar

The Netherlands
The end of the Northern half of this journey

Coming from Germany

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

At four PM, I am back in the Netherlands again.
My first stop is at the bank, to change my Norwegian money for euro's. Not this time, the bank is closed for the weekend.

Next to the bank is the toilet building. Fortunately, this one is clean......

Stopped to change money.

From Hengelo I drive to Apeldoorn, Amersfoort and Utrecht and then South, in the direction of Breda.

When I buy a fruitjuice and some sandwiches at a gasstation, I meet another Dutch biker on a Africa Twin. He also stopped for food and while eating we chat about bikes and GPS systems etc.

Just a short rest in the shade of a tree.

On the road to Breda I meet a few Belgian bikers at a gasstation. They have been to the dragraces in Drachten, to support a friend who was racing.

From Breda I drive past Roosendaal to go home and at nine PM, after a 8100 km trip, I park my bike in the garage again.

Epilog of the NorthCape trip

It was a wonderfull trip. Maybe the best bike trip I ever made.
Maybe the weather could have been better and my BMW suit could have been more waterproof but dispite the weather is was so great to ride in Scandinavia.

I'm sure that I will come back but I'm not sure yet that it will be on this BMW. It is a little small for me. Maybe with higher handlebars and another, higher seat the seating position would be better. (or maybe I just need a GoldWing again......)
For the rest the bike performed perfect. After a few days of riding in the rain the free-gear indicator did light up while driving but after a dry day, the problem was gone. Not a single mechanical problem.
I sprayed the chain every day and did not have to adjust it at all.

Update on the bike (October 16th, 2006)
I bought a GoldWing again, a GL1200 Aspencade from 1984. I may drive this bike to Gibraltar, instead of the BMW.

Update on the bike (August, 2007)
After my trip to Denmark on the GL1200 Aspencade, I think my trip to Gibraltar will be on this bike..

Update on the bike (August, 2008)
My trip to Gibraltar is moved from 2008 to later, because of family circumstances.

Update on Gibraltar (June 2013)
