Part 2
To Gibraltar

Saturday, July 8th, 2006

This morning I left my hotel in Hammer at half past seven. Right after breakfast.
I started on the E6, North to Otta. I stopped at a HydroTexaco gas station for fuel and coffee. While I was filling the tank, a man walked to me and asked if I wanted a free coffee an icecream and a breadroll. They had a promotion action because the "coffee mug system" had it's 10th birthday. Nice.

Free coffee and bread at the gasstation

After a nice chat and the coffee and bread, I got on the BMW again and drove North until the exit to road 15 and then I drove East on road nr 15 to visit the Gearranger fjord. This is the Fjord all the big cruise ships that visit Norway go into.

Road nr 15 is a beautiful road and I could spend an entire day just to photograph all the nice views, buildings and everything along this road.

Beautiful view

A wooden church

An old farm

Then I drove from road 15 to road 83, going North to the Gearranger fjord. This road is not as wide as road 15 but very spectaculair. Wild rivers beside the road, beautiful forest, rough mountains and lots of curves and hairpins in the road.

A rapid in the river, next to the road

Then, after some thight corners, I saw the Gearranger fjord. It is spectaculair !! Deep below you see those big ships. And then the road down. If you love to ride roads with tight corners, hairpins etc. this is the road !!! Great fun.

The Gearranger fjord

The way up again was just like the way down so I had a good time. I was glad I left my tent behind so the bike feels a lot better. This is what motorcycling is all about isn't it :-)
Then I drove to Trollstigen. The road, again with lots of hairpins, is so close to the waterfall, you get wet !

The road to Trollstigen

From Trollstigen I drive to road 64 that goes to the coast. It is so beautiful here, I am sure I will come back here again.

Beautiful lake

To get to the E39 on the coast I need a ferry. When I arrive, there is a row of cars and an empty ferry but there is no crew on board so it looks like we won't use this one. After more then half an hour waiting, a ferry arrives from the other side of the fjord.
Unfortunately the weather is not so good anymore. While I am waiting for the ferry, it started to rain and it does not stop that day.

Waiting in the rain for the ferry to arrive.

My BMW motorrad outfit was supposed to be waterproof. That is why I bought this expensive jacked and trousers but it is absolutely NOT waterproof for more then two hours. Even my underwear is wet. :-(
I wish I had my leathers and old fasioned rain overall.

Finaly at ten in the evening, after driving in the rain for hours, I find a hotel. The room is just big enough to put all my luggage and wet bike clothes but it has a bathroom and a bed so that's OK for me.

Hotel Fannarheimr, in Fannrem,
45 km West of Trondheim.

Well, with dry clothers on and after having a nice pizza for dinner, life feels good again and I go to sleep for a early start tomorrow.
