Part 2
To Gibraltar

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006

Today, on my birthday, at 10:35h, after riding 4378 kilometer on my BMW F650GS, I arrived at the North Cape. I did it!

At the Repparfjord Hotel Skaid, breakfast was served at eight so I was there at five minutes before eight. The bike was already loaded and ready to ride.
I had a coffee, a orange juice and some bread. There was a tube with kaviar to put on your bread. I tried it but I don't like it for breakfast.

At half past eight I left the hotel parking and drove to Oberfjord on the E6. After Oberfjord I took the E69 to the North Cape.

Rainshowers in the distance

When I left the hotel it was dry but the sky looked very cloudy with rainshowers in the distance. Again, it was a beautiful ride. I saw some reindeer on and beside the road and the scenery was fantastic

A reindeer

The road was going over mountain cols, through tunnels and over the tundra. One long tunnel had no lights......Mmmm, not my favorite.....

The entrance of the almost seven kilometer long "Nordkapp tunnelen"

It is strange that in long tunnels, I think because of the difference in temperatures inside and out, there can be fog. If you look at the picture of the entrance of the Nordkapp tunnel, you can see the fog coming out of the tunnel.

It was still dry when I arrived at the parking near the North Cape monument and after parking the bike and a short walk, I could see the North Cape monument in the distance.

The North Cape monument in the distance

I walked to the monument, took some pictures. Someone asked me to take their pictures at the monument and I asked them to take mine in return.

On my birthday at the North Cape monument.

After taking pictures at the monument I go to the visitors center to buy postcards and post them. (Unfortunately, after I left Norway, I found one card between the souvenirs so I have to hand that one over personaly) At the visitors center, I buy myself a birthday cake and a coffee and then I start my long way home.

While I was standing near the monument, it started to rain and that did not stop while I was in the visitors center so unfortunately, when I left, it was still raining.
When I walked to the parking I noticed a strange thing. At the parking were five or six motorbikes, five or six normal cars and I think more then a hundred campers.

Many campers on the North Cape parking.

Then I started my long ride home. First I go back to the E69 to Oberfjord, then I go back on the E6 but now in the direction of Lakselv and Karesjak.
From Karesjak I go on the 92/93 via Gievdnjegokke to Kantokieme.
What a fantastic road this is. Many long sweeping curves, perfect to ride with +/- 100 km/h and a stunning scenery. There is almost no other traffic so despite the rain, I have a good time.

A wonderful road.

Some Lapland locals live in tents like the American Indians.

A tunnel through the mountain.

Sheep on the road.

Reindeer in the water.
