Finland
Coming from Norway
Thursday, July 13th, 2006
Yesterday I was at the North Cape and drove to a motel, close
to the border with Finland and now I'm driving from Finland to Sweden.

Dedicated snowscooter crossing.
A roadsign that I have seen in Finland only.

After driving some 30 kilometers on the 958 from the Norwegian border,
I arrived in Hetto. In Hetto, I stop at a gas station to ask for
directions and get some coffee.
The lady at the coffeehouse is not very friendly. If I ask het for a
coffee, the answer is a short "selfservice" and she walks away. When I ask
for a cake, she puts it on a plate and just tell me what I have to pay.
Not a word to much...... Ah well, the coffee and cake are fine and it
is dry inside.
The gasstation in Hetto.
An advantage of Finland is that they use the Euro so I did not have to
change money. I could pay for the coffee and cake with the Euro's I
had with me from Holland.
The roads are wet but nice to ride on anyway.
From Hatto I drive to Palojoensuu and then to Kaaresuvanto, on the
border with Sweden.
At the border, I try to change money but there is no bank. I also look
for stickers and badges but unfortunately the souvenirs they do sell are
to big for my bike.
