Day 13, Driving back to Toronto
Sunday, September 22, 2019
This is our last full day in Canada. Tomorrow evening, we will fly
back home again.
This morning I had my morning coffee in one of the
sitting rooms of Woonhaven Country Lodge, with a view on the lake and tonight
we will stay in the same hotel we stayed the first days after we a
arrived in Canada.
Tomorrow our Air Canada flight departs from Toronto so we left the
beautiful Kawartha Lakes area for the busy and crowded Toronto.
Before we left, we had a very nice breakfast, together with the
other guests in de lodge.
Sad news
The primary reason Anneke and I went to Canada was to see and speak
oom Jan van der Willik, our late fathers best friend one more time.
Last week we spend two wonderful days in Sarnia as guests of oom Jan
and his wife Norma. We all enjoyed to talk about the old days and
our parents.
This morning just after our breakfast, we got a sad email from oom Jan
his son Tim. He wrote that his father passed away last night.
So it was really the last time that we
saw him and both Anneke and I are very glad that we had the oppertunity
to meet and speak this wonderful kind friend one more time.
Oom Jan, a wonderful and kind man
At eleven o'clock we left Woodland Lodge and travelled the dirtroad
for the last time.
We left Woodhaven Country Lodge
We love the autumn colors of the trees and the nice roads in this
part of Canada.

Along the way we noticed some strange shaped buildings. We have seen
these buildings on other places in Ontario too. I don't know what it
is.

There are less farms and more industrial activity along the road since
we come closer to Peterborough.
Less farms.....
....and more industrial activity
We like riding the country roads, but for now, we have to stay on the
bigger roads.
More traffic then we were used to the last days
I am very happy that I had my old Nokia cell phone as a backup GPS
because the Garmin that we got with the car did not work. The Nokia
works fine and tha manager of the car rental office promised that
he will remove the GPS from the bill.

We drive on bussier roads now and we see even bigger trucks then
before and signs about the law.

At almost one o'clock we were getting hungry so we looked for a
restaurant, like a Tim Hortons (because of the good coffee) or
McDonalds (for the hamburgers) but we found a 'Popeyes'.
We both bought a Cayan chicken sandwich with coleslaw and milk.
They did not serve coffee so milk was the best they had.
Unfortunately, Anneke and I both did not like the sandwich and
make things worse, when we left we saw a McDonalds a few hundred
meters away .
Popeyes
We were on the 401 now, one of the main roads to Toronto and
it was packed with cars, even on a Sunday afternoon.
Much traffic
Along the road, we saw a field with hundreds of caravans,
trailers and RV's. I have never seen so much caravans,
trailers and RV's on one place.

After the not so good sandwich at Popeyes, we really wanted a
good coffee so when we spotted a sign for a Tim Hortons at
exit 418, we left the freeway and got a coffee and a donut.

And then we went back on the 401 in the crazy traffic of Toronto.....
Forteen lanes filled with cars !
At three o'clock, we finaly arrived at our hotel, the Sandman
Signature Hotel in Mississauga.
The Sandman Signature hotel
We checked in and went to our room, room 801. A nice room with
a sleeping room and a living room with a sleeping couch.
At six o'clock in the afternoon, we went to the McDonalds that
was across the street from the hotel and had a nice Mc-dinner.
Dinner at McDonalds
In the lobby of the hotel are computers and printers in a
bussines center for guest so there we logged in to do the
on-line checkin for our Air Canada flight home and printed
our boardingpasses.
We will depart at 20:50 h local time and arrive at Schiphol
at 10:00 h local time.
