Day 6, Relaxed Sunday in Sarnia, visiting friends

Sunday, September 15, 2019

This motel has a complementary breakfast so at a quarter past eight, we went to the breakfast room near the entrance of the hotel for a nice breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon on a bagel and a cup of coffee.

Anneke wanted to read a book and walk in de surrounding area of the hotel and I went to an Anytime Fitness Brights Grove on 2600 Lakeshore Road in Brights Grove, Ontario.

At the Anytime gym, I had no problem getting in with my Dutch electronic key but the gym was a lot less luxerious then the one where I go to at home. No lockers for valuables, only two dressingrooms, no coffee corner....
But is was good to do some exercise anyway. I did some running and some weight training and finaly some more running.

While I was doing my training, Anneke had been reading and had been walking along the harbour. There she saw a giant industrial 'thing' being unloaded from the cargoship that was at the quay.

Back at the motel, we had a coffee and then we went to the Walmart in Sarnia. I wanted to buy a charger for my phone with a Canadian plug, to avoid using a adapter plug.

The Walmart in Sarnia

The Walmart in Sarnia is HUGE. There will be not many things that you can not buy there. I can not say that I like it, but it is impressive.

Near the entrance is a McDonalds so before we started shopping, we had a nice lunch.

It is HUGE

Although it is very big, it is not a cheap shop. The prices for a phone charger were between $12 and almost $30. Much more then I wanted to spend.

They did sell lots of Halloween attributes like plastic pumpkins, masks and all kind of things. Anneke tried a cheesburger suit but she did not buy it .

Next to the Walmart was a Dollarama store. It is a Canadian dollar store and it is Canada's largest retailer of items for four dollars or less. The phone charger I was looking for was only four dollars so I bought it.

From the Walmart and Dollarama we drove to the Anytime Fitness in Brights Grove again, because I had forgotten to take a picture of it and from Brights Grove we went to Jan and Norma's appartment in Sarnia.

We wanted to walk along the coastline of Lake Huron and in the park next to their appartment and whem we were close to their balcony, Anneke called Norma and asked if they wanted to get on the balcony for a picture.

Jan and Norma

From the beach of the lake, you can see the bridge between Canada and the USA. There was a long line of big trucks on the bridge, waiting to get into the USA with their load.

This morning started with rain but in the afternoon, the weather was much better and on the lake, we saw people enjoy their sailboats, speedboats and waterscooters.

The remaining of the afternoon, we spend with Jan and Norma, talking and reminisce.

Jan, Norma and Anneke

Norma had cooked a delicious dinner for us and we enjoyed it with a good glass of real Canadian beer. The dessert was applepie with icecream. (It is good I burned some calories at the gym this morning ).

Tomorrow, we hope to sleep at the Cedar Vista Motel in Tobermory.
