Day 4, from Plzen to Cesky Krumlov
Tuesday, May 26, 2015
It had been raining all night long and when I looked out of my window in the
morning, everything looked wet.
The wet view from my window
The trip of today, from Plzen to Cesky Krumlov, is about hundred sixty kilometer and
the check-in in the hotel is from twelve o'clock. That is why it is useless to
start this trip very early so we wanted to have breakfast at half past eight.
At a few minutes past eight however, all the lights in the hotel went out. Dick
called me on the phone and we decided to go to the restaurant to see if we could have
breakfast now. The restaurants was very "rustic" with little oil lamps on the tables
and fortunately, they had hot coffee in a thermos.
We had a rather strange but tasty breakfast and then we checked out en went to our
bikes.
The rain had become a light drizzle so that was not to bad.
I'll have to take pictures through the raindrops.....
At a few minutes past nine, we left the hotel parking and via some detours because of
road-construction, we found the road to the South.
Getting out of Plzen
A nice two lane road
A short stop to take some pictures and to help another biker with
a broken down Buell motorcycle.
After an hour riding, we saw a nice village along the road so we
stopped there to take some pictures.
A nice village
We did not need gas for the bikes today but we needed some coffee so we
stopped at a gas station with a small cafetaria to get cappuccino's.
Time for cappuccino's
Unfortunately, we had a few rain showers, just when we were riding through
some nice villages so the pictures have some raindrops on it.
It was raining again
On our way to Cesky Krumlov, we came through Ceske Budejovice, the birth-place
of the original Czech Budweiser beer. We still had to ride to Cesky Krumlov so
we did not drink Budweiser beer here but a cappuccino. To compensate for the lack of
beer, we had a very nice honey-cake with whipped-cream with the cappuccino.

A Budweiser sign in the street in Ceske Budejovice
There are some beautiful lakes in this area of the Czech Republic and when we
found a good parking spot we parked the bikes to look at the beautiful scenery
and to take some pictures.
Near a lake
At one o'clock, we finaly arived at our hotel in Cesky Krumlov. We had a nice
place for the bikes, on the premises of the hotel, behind a gate that is closed
at night.
A good place for the bikes
The hotel is very nice. We have rooms in a seperate building accross the street.
The rooms are very big with a seperate sitting room, a bathroom and a sleeping
room so I am happy we choose this hotel.
After we checked in and unloaded the bikes, we changed clothes and walked to the
historic center of Cesky Krumlov, a few minutes walking from the hotel. Perfect !
We walked through the old town and up the hill to the castle and enjoyed the beautiful
old buildings and the views over the old city from the walls of the castle.
A lot of (Chinese) tourist wanted to see the town too
A jewelry saleswoman
An art shop
Namesti Svornosti (the town square)
The castle and the river
Dick needed a new pocket knife and he found it in a shop in the old center.
They sold almost everything here. Clothes, souvenirs, hats, guns, knifes
and it was very unorganised. But it was fun to watch it.
A very chaotic shop
A tourist on the bridge to the castle
A tower with beautiful paintings on the outside
A gate to the castle
Under the bridge to this gate is a deep pit with a big brown bear walking around.

A beautiful castle
The view of the old city from the castle wall
The castle, the river and the city
A courtyard
A blacksmith at work in his workshop
Street artists
At half past three, we were getting hungry so we both bought
a hotdog and a cappuccino.
A gate of the city
Just a nice picture of the castle
We had seen most of the old city and the castle so we went back to the
hotel. Then we booked our hotel for tomorrow, Hotel Atlas, Tyrsova 2063
in Benesov, Tsjechie. We left our cameras in the hotel and went back to the city to find
a restaurant for dinner. We found "Pizzeria Risstorante Cosa Vostra".
Dick had spaghetti and I had a tuna pizza. We had a glass of beer with
our dinner, cheesecake as dessert and we finished it with a espresso.
Life is good !
After dinner we went back to the hotel but at eight o'clock in the evening
we went back to the old city for a beer.
A beer in a nice cafe
If you order a beer here in the Czech Republic, you do not get a small glass
like we get in the Netherlands but a big glass with half a liter of beer !
Finally, we went back to the hotel and I worked on this travel log before
going to sleep. It was a great day despite a little rain now and then.
