Day 9, from Horni Misecky to Dresden
Sunday, May 31, 2015
I had a very good night sleep in my room at Pension Yveta. The bed was good, it
was quiet and it is a nice place to fall asleep.
A good bed in a nice room
I woke up at seven and at a quarter to eight, I had loaded all my luggage on
the bike. At eight, we had a good breakfast and soon we were on our way to
Dresden in Germany.
The winding road beside the river, back to the main road, was going through
Krkonossky Marodni Park. It is absolutely a beautiful park and I would love
to come back one day.
The road from Pension Yveta to the valley (under re-construction)
The Giant Mountains in the Czech republic are a bikers paradise. Good roads,
beautiful scenery and very affordable accomodation and food. I like it here !
A small river next to the road
After we had stopped to take a picture, I noticed that my left hand handlebar grip
was coming loose so I used some tape on the handlebar to get a better fit and now
it works fine again.
Roadside repairs (with tape)
At a quarter to ten, we had a cappuccino in Hotel Prichovice, on the road to
Liberec.
.... and did I mention how much I like riding a motorcycle on these roads......
Nice curves
On some places you see big old buildings that are in bad shape. I guess these
are remains of the Sovjet period.
Old neglected building
At half past ten we rode through Liberec and at almost eleven, we stopped at a
gasstation for cappuccino and cake. There were a few other motorcycles parked
at the cafetaria, one of them a nice Harley Sportster chopper. Unfortunately all
riders just spoke Czech so we could not chat with them.
A nice Harley Sportster chopper
The cappuccino and cake were nice but we had to ride on, to get to Dresden
today, so we got on our bikes again.
Our plan was to ride to a city called Decin, on the banks of the Elbe. From
Decin, we wanted to ride on the road next to the Elbe to Dresden in Germany.
On the road to Decin
In Decin, we found the Elbe but the first road we tried was a dead end street
so we crossed the bridge to the other bank, to get on the road to Dresden.
On the hill along the Elbe was a big castle, Decin Castle. It looked impressive
and maybe I will visit it the next time that I'll go to the Czech Republic.

On the bank of the Elbe
The road along the Elbe, the 62, was a good road and because it was along the river,
it was a nice winding road too. We enjoyed the ride.
Nice winding road along the Elbe
After a while, we came at a small river, the Kamenice, that joined the Elbe at a
place called Hrensko. It was very close to the German border and there were some
hotels and restaurants and a lot of market-booths where they sold "everything". I
guess the Germans come here, close to the border, to buy things cheaper then in
Germany.
We found a good parking spot for our bikes and walked along the booths and the river.

At a restaurant we had coffee and bread with a mixture of meat and cheese. (I won't
take that again......) before we continued our ride to Dresden.
Soon we crossed the border into Germany so now we can pay with Euros again.
Along the Elbe in Germany
On the road to Dresden we saw a very big fortress on a hilltop. I don't know
what it is but it looked impressive.....

When the suburbs of Dresden came into view, so came the traffic jams. It was bumper
to bumper traffic, almost all the way to the hotel but finaly, at a quarter past three, we
arrived at Kim Hotel Dresden.
I asked if we could put the motorcycles in front of the window of the reception
so someone would see them day and night and that was all right so I assume the
bikes are safe here.
In front of the reception of the hotel
After we had brought our luggage to our rooms, we had a beer at Kitzo Alpen Stuberl,
the restaurant next to the hotel entrance.
I just needed a small beer, Dick wanted a big beer
At six, we had a good dinner at Kitzo Alpen Stuberl.
There is not much to do in the area around the hotel so the rest of the evening
we spend each in our own room.
The area around the hotel is not very interesting......
On Monday, we will take the tram to the center of Dresden but early in the morning,
Dick will go the the BMW dealer to get his pannier attachment repaired.
