Riding from Montcombroux to Millau (part 1)

After a shower, I dressed, packed al my luggage on the bike and left the hotel. I could leave the keys of my room and the garage on the table in the hall. Easy.
Time to ride to Montcombroux for breakfast.

The road from Bert to Montcombroux

It is just a little more then six kilometers from Bert to Montcombroux so it took me only a few minutes of riding on these very nice roads.

Montcombroux

I was at Robert and Janny's place at eight AM again. Before we left for Millau, we had breakfast and we watched the weather report on the TV. It did not look very good. Lots of rainshowers on our route.....

First we had to go to Lapallise, to fill our tanks at the Champion gasstation. (7.17 liter at 187,1 km, that is 26 km on a liter) Then we rode through Vichy in the direction of Thiers.
At Puy Guillaume, we stopped for a cup of coffee and a croissant.

After we left Puy Guillaume, we pasted Thiers. At Olliergues, we stopped to take a few pictures from the village below us.

From Olliergues, we followed the D906 in the direction of Le Puy en Velay, a very nice and scenic route.

Then at 12:45, we stopped to take some pictures of the ruins of a castle on a hilltop and then we continued in the direction of Le Puy en Velay.

Then we arrived in Le Puy en Velay. A nice town but very much traffic in the center. Le Puy en Velay is a starting-point for the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela.
When you arrive from the North, you see a very big statue on a hilltop.

Further down the road you see a church on another hilltop. It is the Saint Michel d'Aiguilhe Chapel. It must have been an enormous task to get al the building materials on that hilltop but it looks amazing.

In Le Puy en Velay, we stopped for lunch. We had a very nice sandwich and a soda at a small snackbar near the center. It is a nice town to come back too.

After this good luch, we continue our journey to the South in the direction of Millau.
